Trusting Your ADHD Process

I have been building this website for quite a long time. I have had two wonderful helpers to make it a landing place for people and, yet, I have procrastinated and worried, changed pictures and failed to learn the rules of SquareSpace. Mostly, this is because I, like most people with ADHD, can find a million ways to plan, avoid and worry. This is not helpful, but it is how I work at times. Maybe this resonates with you. Here is the thing, brains are not all the same. If you have ADHD, you know that the way “most” people do things is not how you do things. But, “most or normal” is not “right and best”. Take a second to appreciate your own processes. Do you procrastinate, stay up too late finishing something you had months to prepare, feel behind everyone else in some simple tasks like Time Management? To be honest, I have learned to love my own brain and I love helping others do the same. Therapy, coaching and some medications can help you to work with your brain, not try to mold it into ways it does not work. Let’s face it, is your brain going to be 100% different or can you work with your own differences and get what you need out of your life.

After living a lifetime with the richness that is me and my brain, I have learned tricks to get the most out of life and to meet goals that are important to me. Simple things like setting alarms, asking for help, learning to actually judge how long something will take, and being mindful are wonderful tools that can make your day sing. We all have different skill sets and ways of managing what needs to be accomplished. Learning to be proud of the small and large wins is a good step - I like a mantra for my day. For example, today was, you can write and publish this blog entry. So, thanks CJ and Amanda, you helped me stop being afraid of getting to this day when I finally add a new post! And, way to go me!! Let me know how you work with your brain!
